1971 Norton Commando 750 , Absolutely stunning machine. Just finished the restoration this spring. This bike is extremely accurate down to every nut and bolt. No expense spared, all original NOS parts or OEM Norton parts. Everything is new other than the engine and tranny, everything. New paint, clutch, brakes, tires, chains, wires, all rubber throughout, gauges rebuilt, all cables, spokes, seat ( also have original seat and looks amazing) oil lines, gaskets throughout on and on. Truly too much to mention that has been done. 17,300 original miles. I just removed the original tire from the front of the bike. This bike has been babied for decades. Not been registered in over 20yrs but I did just register. You must see this bike. Not cheap but if your after a true unmolested accurate bike this is the nicest I have seen. 120 miles since resto just to work out the kinks. Runs amazing looks stunning. I have had the bike out three times and wow what a crowd it draws. This build was overseen by Phil Radford at Fair Spares. He helped in many ways and knows all that has been put into it. I have a very nice example of a 1973 TX650 (XS650) cafe racer for sale with 14,750 original miles. I put a lot of work and money into this bike over the summer, and she is running like a champ. Tons of torque and I`ve been told multiple times by friends that this was the fastest XS they`ve ridden. All mechanical work was professionally done by Rob Ghislain of Dinosaur Four, a specialist in vintage Japanese motorcycles. Idols strong, shifts smooth, a true blast to ride. Vesco desert tank. 1970 vintage Husqvarna aluminum fenders with custom mounting brackets (see last photo). Preston Petty front #plate / tool box w/vintage desert number plate. 3.25x21 front tire and 5.00x18 rear. All high risk bolts & nuts were safety wired for racing. This is a loud, brash, in your face vintage desert sled. If you`re caught behind this bike while racing then you`d be in trouble--if the sound from those open megaphones don`t kill you then the roost from that rear tire will. It is beyond trick--beyond `works` even---it truly is a one-of-a-kind bike and would be impossible to duplicate now. I purchased this bike from the original owner/builder (the son of a famous Hollywood western film star of the 1950`s) who had informed me that he had lost count of all the $$ he had invested in this bike. His estimate was `somewhere around $40,000 or upwards over the years`. He told me that he had always wanted the ultimate MX/desert bike so in 1970 he contacted Trackmaster Racing Frames (who were famous for their short and long track flat-track frames) and specifically requested that they custom build him a motocross / grand prix desert frame for a Norton 750 motor that would have the longer rake steering angle for high speed tracking & stability. He paid them what was a small fortune at the time and waited forever, as Trackmaster was up to their eyeballs making their cutting edge flat track frames. The wait was worth it though because what you see here is this one of a kind / `only one in the world` frame. Bike started out with conventional Betor short travel suspension and eventually evolved into the bike you see here. He spent ridiculous amounts of $$ on every trick part he could find or have custom built. His budget was unlimited. This bike was raced--improved upon---and raced again until it evolved into the long travel incarnation you see here. I doubt that there is another bike like this anywhere in the world and I sincerely doubt that anyone could duplicate this bike today, at any cost. Most of these parts are one off, and the ones that aren`t are surely unobtainable now. Take a close look at those wheels & sprockets, the engine & exhaust, the carb & intake, the footpegs and brake arm, etc. Over 40 years of time and buckets of money have gone into turning a British heavyweight into this lightweight fighting machine.This is the one and only 750 Norton desert frame that was ever built by Trackmaster. This is a solid 1974 norton commando (850 not 750 as the title implies couldn`t change it) roadster, this bike has hipster and vintage appeal, upgraded electronics, converted to negative ground for increased reliability, tri spark ignition $$$, three phase alternator, tri spark single coil, anti sump valve, custom seat, good tires Kenda, good running has a mean sound to it with the dunstal type mufflers... It is a survivor that will rival the best vintage bikes in any bike night competition. Has 54,242 on the odometer, it marks its territory with oil from time to time as is common with Norton`s it does much better on center stand or just being level. This bike is extremely fun and makes you feel like a champion. I am selling my beloved due to a Right Knee injury and kick starting it with my left has become awkward. It starts in one to two kicks always, just tickle the carbs... If she sells I will be sorry to see her go I have always been a Norton guy for some reason. I cannot ship this bike so local pick up only. I bought it from a guy in Minnesota in 2006 who had 20 triumphs and one Norton, he said he did a lot of work to it. I was 26 so I don`t know if it was restored or if any work was done to the engine, sorry. I know that in the time I`ve owned it the electronics were fickle so I had it rewired to negative ground and put in top of the line electronics. It is now extremely reliable no longer chasing smoke from shorts. This bike is not of the show room floor but is a great stock Norton with little subtle upgrades to look see picts. 1969 Norton 750S Commando with a 1973 750 Commando engine and the highly desirable and rare street scrambler high level exhaust system. Odometer shows 14649 miles. Not currently running but the motor kicks over and seems to have great compression. Original paint has fading and general wear. Glass is busted out of the gauges and amp meter. Chrome on the rims is presentable. Exhaust is intact with no holes or cracks. Gas tank is in good shape, side covers are intact with no cracks. Front tire is shot, back tire holds air but is old. Missing the driver`s right foot peg, chain guard, and some hardware here and there. Taillight assembly is broken and incomplete. Seat has several tiny puncture holes. Still a great Norton with loads of character. Sold with bill of sale only.
